The truth in life comes when the universe gifts you. I was gifted when Matt put a camera in my hand and a second chance at love in my heart. Giving this gift back to others is the universe coming full circle. Just over 2 years ago, Maya and her family came into our lives through mutual friends, the Fizzys. Maya, 3 years old, had B-Cell Acute Lymphoplastic Leukemia (ALL). We just couldn’t wrap our heads or our hearts around not only her diagnosis at such a young age but what this family’s day-to-day felt like, looked like, was like. 799 days. In April, Maya underwent her last chemo treatment. Maya is quite simply, a dragon, and her family… well, there are no words to describe them. This family and our community celebrated Maya’s last treatment with a healing ceremony followed by a fundraiser for the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation at the Shoe Tree Brewery. I was lucky enough to document it. Maya, Sara, Scott, and Lincoln-thank you for this gift. The world needs more Morrisons!
~With all my heart, Tara
